On the way to the Otago Peninsula we visited Oamaru and later stopped to walk along Moeraki Beach. The beach has some unusual round boulders on it that have crystals inside like a geode.
In Oamaru we visited the Steampunk HQ museum. The museum has been described as a "mix of Victorian engineering and science fiction." We all found something of interest as we explored their exhibits. The more exotic exhibits ranged from an end of the world clock based on the Mayan calendar to a brightly colored space portal.
In Oamaru we walked around the historic area and saw the preparations for festival that begins on Sunday. Oamaru is known for its Victorian era buildings.
The walk along Moeraki Beach gave us a break from our drive to the Otago Peninsula.
